The bioethanol market is growing due to the pressing need for an alternative and clean energy. The industry is expected to reach $9.54 million by 2022 from $5.65 million in 2015.

What makes bioethanol attractive is it is sourced from the environment, mainly from crops such as sugarcane, maize, and corn. This is a good alternative to fossil fuels, which are considered the chief cause of air pollution, not to mention that the sources are depleting fast. The need to find an abundant, cheap and clean alternative is a must today.

This abides by the Paris Agreement, signed by nations all over the world, which vowed to reduce the global temperature to pre-industrial levels. The nations which signed the deal agreed to reduce carbon emissions, except for the U.S., which backed out of the agreement as initiated by President Donald Trump.

Since transportation is responsible for 23 percent of global carbon emissions, the use of bioethanol fuels as a substitute for fossil fuels in vehicles is being pushed at the moment. But ethanol’s benefits go beyond the transportation sector, as it can also be used to reduce the output of fuel-based heating systems. Climate Ethanol Alliance’s Bart Pieper reveals that countries are now realizing the potential of bioethanol in light of Paris Climate Conference commitments.

As the vehicles in the world will hit 1.7 million by 2035, the need for bioethanol fuel is rapidly increasing to augment the fuel consumption, which is expected to reach 21.9 million gallons per day by 2035. North America led the global ethanol market in 2015, but Asia is catching up fast with the surge in demand from China, Thailand, and India. On the other hand, Germany represents the largest market in the EU for ethanol. In 2016, the nation was able to save an estimated 1 billion liters of petrol because of high bioethanol consumption.

Companies are beginning to realize the growth opportunities in the industry. Here are three bioethanol companies that have established themselves as emerging leaders in the industry.

1. Poet Research

Poet is one of the world’s largest producers of ethanol. Its most popular products are Dakota Gold distillers grains, Voila™ corn oil, and INVIZ™ zein. For almost three decades, Poet’s mission remains to produce renewable alternative product solutions that are sustainable.

Poet has done remarkable feats with their technology. Since 2007, their water usage has gone down by as much as 20 percent and energy usage also went down by 18 percent. Over the same period, their ethanol yield increased by as much as 8 percent. Their project LIBERTY can produce 25 million gallons of ethanol using corn cobs and stover. This shows you that they produce their products efficiently and nothing goes to waste.

Poet is also campaigning for clean fuel for cooking with the use of ethanol stoves, which can lessen the dependence on burning fuel and wood to cook food.

2. Greenbelt Resources

Greenbelt Resources Corporation (OTCMKTS:GRCO) is a biotech company that also caters to alternative ag tech sector. It converts food, agriculture and beverage wastes into biofuels (bioethanol), fertilizer and feeds, among others. What makes Greenbelt Resources stand out is the unique community scale of its proprietary ECOsystem model that is geared toward taking care of the environment both local and beyond.

The company prides itself on its own Organic Waste Recycling System. It is Greenbelt’s answer to modular ethanol production. This technology can convert local wastes such as food, beverage, and other cellulosic wastes into fuel, feed, fertilizer, and filtered water, which can be retailed and consumed.

3. China New Energy Limited

China New Energy is based in China, but it also supplies products, such as bioethanol and biobutanol, to Romania, Taiwan, Russia, Thailand and Indonesia. Its technology can convert agricultural plant materials and waste into fuel ethanol, edible ethanol, and biobutanol, among others.

The bioethanol that China New Energy produces is being used as fuel, solvents for use in the chemicals industry or ingredients in beverages industry. The company currently parades itself with 22 advanced technology products under patent for invention, which include the following, among others:

  • Distillation & Dehydration Equipment & Process for Combined Production of Fuel Ethanol and Normal-grade Edible Alcohol

People will soon realize that there is only one world to live in and that is the Earth. Taking care of it should be a moral obligation of every human being. Companies such as Greenbelt Resources, China New Energy Limited and Poet Research are forging the path for a cleaner future by taking care of the environment today. Expect more companies to follow suit as the industry continues to grow and evolve.
